"Part 9 Spiritual Warfare: Put on the helmet of salvation"

Don Nicely Ministries Newsletter for September

Ephesians 6:17a (NKJV)17And take the helmet of salvation.

The helmet of a Roman soldier was made of bronze metal and it covered the neck and upper shoulders completely. Cheek pieces were added to protect the soldiers face as well. The interior was woven with a network of straps and padding for comfort and to assure that the heavy metal helmet wouldn’t fall off during a battle. The helmet was one of the most secure pieces of armor a soldier could wear. The enemy never attempted to strike a death blow to the head because of it’s impenetrable qualities.

The same is of our spiritual helmet of salvation. If you wear the assurance or confidence that your salvation is secure in Christ it’s hard to stop you. When you wear this helmet you are clothed with absolute security that you belong to Christ, and are a member of his eternal family.

God wanted us to have that assurance before we went into battle so we wouldn’t be tempted to switch sides in the heat of battle. Or loose because we weren’t quite sure of our salvation. If you are not sure of your salvation and you’ve received Christ and repented of your sins then read this;

John 17:2-3 (NKJV)2as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

1 John 5:13 (NKJV)13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

These scriptures affirm us that our salvation is secure if we know and believe in the son of God. Our salvation is secure in the finished work of Christ.

Once you have a settled assurance in your heart of your salvation, you will have to settle the issue of dealing with past, present, and future sins. According to John 5:24 we have been delivered from the guilt and punishment of all sin.

John 5:24 (NKJV)24”Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Romans 6:8 assures us that daily we are being delivered from the power of sin;

Romans 6:8 (NKJV)8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

And finally we will also be delivered from the very presence of sin;

Revelation 21:27 (NKJV)27But there shall be no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Now you may be wondering just how does the helmet of salvation protect me. It protects our very minds. It is vitally important that we guard our minds. Just one lie, a passing thought of rejection, a wrong doctrine of a question of salvation can send us spinning in a tailspin. All these corrupt thoughts are aimed at destroying our experience with Christ and overthrowing our desire to obey him. According to 2 Corinthians we must make our thoughts obey the truth by taking them captive to the obedience of Christ, who is the truth. All thoughts must be forced to live up to the word of God to be added to our belief system. Putting on the helmet of salvation means to maintain a sense of truths and wholly embracing them.

This helmet of the hope of salvation…1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NKJV)8But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, as a helmet the hope of salvation. gives us the happy certainty that Jesus will always lead us to in ultimate triumph and that no strategy or tactic of the enemy will separate us from the Love of God.

Romans 8:35-37 (NKJV)35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written: ‘’For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

With the helmet of salvation secure in place no matter how many thoughts the enemy brings our way-they will not be able to shake us or rob us of our faith.

The enemy fights you hard with thoughts and doubts about just how much God can be trusted and how secure your faith is. But the word of God proclaims that God is not a man that he should lie!!!
